This Year's Project: School Age Care Programs
About Our Organization
Our purpose and mission has evolved into a character building institution for youth while assisting their families with community issues and challenges. The foundation for character building is practicing and modeling the common good, being personally involved in the lives of these children, youth and families to serve them as if members of our own family.
Current Project: School Age Care Programs
Sanford Community Center has two School Age Care sites: 1700 Geneva Street and 6100 Morningside Avenue. Donations from Siouxland Big Give supports our children by providing funding for special outings and activities. We also meet individual needs such as school supplies.
Before & After School Program
The before and after school program is the place where we ensure that our elementary children are socially and emotionally prepared. With the ability to connect with children on a holistic approach, by teaching life and social skills, we help our children develop a strong relationship with adults, a sense of worth, positive peer relationships, leadership and decision making skills which lead to a productive life. Most of all, we connect our children with positive role models and volunteers who care about them. We help parents by providing transportation to and from school to the center as well as a snack!
Summer Program
We are proud to host one of the most inexpensive summer programs in Sioux City. Running seven weeks, Monday - Friday, it gives participants plenty of new beginnings. From rock climbing to roller skating, field trips to nearby communities, we introduce children in our summer program to new and unique experiences. We bring in guest speakers to discuss career opportunities, participate in Boys & Girls Scout camp, and even offer special classes in math, reading, and cooking. We teach history through partnership with Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and attend art classes at the local Art Center. For some fun field trips outside of Sioux City, we travel to the Butterfly Museum and Washington Pavillion in Sioux Falls.
