About Our Organization
At Bishop Heelan we enroll a diverse body of students from the tri-state area to offer a faith-based education that provides them with a lifetime advantage. We are excited to celebrate our 75th graduating class this year at Heelan High School. We are grateful to our BIG GIVE donors who helped us purchase the Heelan TouchWall in 2022 where you can use the interactive online or touchscreen at the High School to see Heelan happenings or history. Other years include donations for tables on our new Crusader Courtyard in 2021, new textbooks in 2020, our fieldhouse indoor track surface in 2019, and our large video scoreboard in 2018. Our supporters truly enhance our high school!

We've got spirit...yes we do....help build a Heelan Legacy Showcase for view!
This year we are honored to celebrate Heelan's 75th graduating class.
With that in mind, our 2023 BIG GIVE project will help us keep part of the old school momentos in a custom-built, modern display case to honor days of the past to current school year successes.
The beautiful showcase will be at a prominent location in Heelan's Duffy Hall. PRIDE for all events at Heelan will get time in the Legacy showcase whether it is academics, faith, athletics or fine arts. We are so proud of our student achievements and want to showcase them with honor.
To commemorate 75 years, join us as the band plays the Heelan Fight Song - uniting multiple generations at Bishop Heelan Catholic High School.

Thank you everyone for supporting the Siouxland BIG GIVE!
With your help we were able to complete the Heelan Interactive Touchwall! It is physically installed and operational in the Heelan High School. Located in the hallway across from the library, you can see what's happening at Heelan and dive into Heelan's History. It includes EVERY yearbook in Heelan's (nearly) 75 years of history! There is lots more data to come!

Bishop Heelan High School has never had a Hall of Fame. Well now we will! We welcome donations for a touchscreen kiosk to showcase our new Hall of PRIDE athletes, our notable alumni, Heelan history, fine arts and news. And better yet, it will be online through our Heelan website to reach people anywhere.
How will it work? Hallway space in our new high school will allow us to install a 65-inch touch screen TV displaying a website that instantly relays milestones and people in Heelan school history. Since the info will all be online it can be viewed by alumni and supporters anywhere at the touch of a finger.
Initially the Heelan Hall of PRIDE will showcase the 10 star Heelan athletes that will be inducted at a special banquet October 8. Content will expand to include accomplished alumni, Crusader of the Year and Volunteer of the Year award recipients, current school activities, valedictorians, All State Music students, alumni in military service and more. It will be exciting to add yearbooks, state championship videos and more.
Donors also will help Bishop Heelan create a physical Hall of PRIDE of honored athletes on a wall in or near the O'Gorman fieldhouse.
"Bishop Heelan has a rich history going back to 1949," says Tom Betz, vice president of advancement and a former state championship basketball coach. "We have been wanting to do this for years, but have been restricted by available space. Now visiting alumni, fans and students will be able to look up Heelan history at the online kiosk at Heelan or access the info from the comfort of home."

Crusader Courtyard Tables
Bishop Heelan High School now has an outdoor gathering space for students, the Crusader Courtyard, created by transforming unusable space next to our fieldhouse. It’s a great area for classes, student lunches, hanging out, waiting for rides, class reunions and special events. It also has helped us with covid safety measures. Donors and a grant helped fund this project and now we need more tables for everyone.
On or before October 5, please give to several charities and also choose Heelan to fund more tables. Choose our Crusader Courtyard!
Textbooks for Smarter Students
Project Details
We hope to raise $16,000 to help purchase new science, social studies and honors theology textbooks for our students. While we have funded more technology and enhanced software for continued learning in the face of COVID-19, we never lose sight of the critical need for excellent, updated high school textbooks. And good textbooks are expensive!
- New “Advanced Anatomy” textbooks will further enhance learning tools for science.
- New “Social Studies” textbooks will address historical events, cultures and society struggles that continue today.
- New textbooks for "Honors Theology" courses are helping students learn more about their faith.
Heelan Gym Walking Track

The dream has come true! Heelan’s $3.7 million gym will open this fall to make our new Heelan High School complete! A new and exciting feature will be an indoor track looping the top of the gym. Our project is to fund a special surface for the track to enhance safety and fitness. It will benefit all students, athletes, teachers, fans and the Heelan family. It means they will have a place to walk and run. No other high school in Sioux City offers this health benefit.

Thanks to our donors last year - who contributed nearly $20,000 - we are installing a Video Scoreboard in our new Heelan Gymnasium. We are close to completing the 1600-seat gymnasium of our new high school.. With rising costs, we needed extra funds for scoreboards and more, and donors stepped up.
Our gym will see action all year and play a key role in helping young students develop into successful adults.

Show Heelan PRIDE: Help us Furnish Our New Gym
Please donate to support the Heelan Gym. Construction is underway to add a 1600 seat gymnasium on to our new high school. But with rising costs, we need extra funds for scoreboards, a sound system, bleachers for extra seating and a scorer's table.
Heelan's new gymnasium will showcase school spirit and Heelan PRIDE! It addition to games and matches, we need a gym for countless athletic practices, physical education classes, pep assemblies, annual honors programs, Heelan's show choir competition, mega music concerts, "Then Feed Just One" meal assemblies for Honduras, elementary school events and more. We will also welcome area public school athletes and their cheering families and fans. Our gym will see action all year and play a key role in helping our young students develop into successful adults.
