This Year's Project: 2023 Sioux City International Film Festival

About Our Organization

The non-profit 501(c)(3) Siouxland Institute of Film, Inc. and its creators have been working for almost two decades to promote independent film in Sioux City and the tri-state region including parts of Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska. The region has over 130,000 people, and thousands more living nearby. For the 18th year in a row, we will be bringing the Siouxland community together for the Sioux City International Film Festival to promote independent films and filmmakers to the people of Sioux City and the surrounding region. Since 2005, the Sioux City International Film Festival has showcased a variety of independent short films from all the around world.

Current Project: 2023 Sioux City International Film Festival

The 2023 Sioux City International Film Festival will be held at the Sioux City Promenade Theatre October 5-8, 2023. Screenings are held daily, starting with a FREE community event on Thursday evening. The feature film being shown at the community event is Love...Reconsidered.

Since 2005, the Sioux City International Film Festival has showcased a variety of independent short films from all the around world. Each day of the Festival multiple screenings across 6 genres are presented. Those films, in addition to being judged by a jury, are also judged by the audience at the end of each presentation. Cash prizes and trophies will be given to the juried selections and to the audience favorites in each category.  An additional Best of Festival Award will be given at the awards presentation on Saturday, October 7.

We go to great lengths to make sure the festival is a great time for not only our filmmakers but our audience too! We build a unique film festival every year around the world's filmmakers bringing something new to the cinema each and every year.

We try to program not only fantastic short films but also events, workshops, meet and greets, coffee hours, and even more!

In 2022, we plan to bring more films, more filmmakers, and even more by celebrating independent short film and their creators. We can't do this without the help of the community and all the people that help make our festival grow each and every year.

Please support us in our efforts to bring the 2022 Sioux City International Film Festival to life and our celebration of short films and the filmmakers who create them.

Those films in addition to being judged by a jury are also judged separately by the audience at the end of each presentation. Cash prizes and trophies will be given to the juried selections and to the audience favorites in each category.  An additional Best of Festival Award will be given on the final day.

  • 2021 Sioux City International Film Festival

    Project Details

The Sioux City International Film Festival is the longest-running shorts festival in Iowa, showcasing outstanding short films from the around the world. SCIFF’s mission is to promote independent films and filmmakers to the people of Sioux City and the surrounding region, connecting those filmmakers to the community through unique events. With our 2021 Film Festival, we will be headquartered at the new Marriott hotel on Historic Fourth Street in downtown Sioux City, with screenings at the Promenade Theater. We plan to host filmmakers, workshops, short films, events, and more celebrating the art of short films. The 2019 festival was the first to be held at the Promenade and was a huge success with our Women In Film program that concluded with a panel of seven women that had various positions in the film industry. Our 2020 fest was canceled due to the pandemic and we are looking to regroup and build our festival to new heights in 2021. We hope to see you there.
