About Our Organization
The Pier Center for Autism is an entity of Mid-Step Services. The center focuses on using evidence-based Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which is the golden standard when working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The Pier Center provides a network of support for the individual with autism while serving the entire family. The Pier Center is the only clinic of its kind in the region. Since its founding in 2012, The Pier Center has been the leading resource for families in the area to get help and assistance using ABA principles. Currently, The Pier Center is located in a non-handicapped accessible six-decade-old convent, which is not conducive to expanding services; it lacks space to serve our existing wait list. We have 60 families on the waiting list, which could take up to 2-3 years for their loved one to be served. To address the need the Pier Center is building a new facility on Stadium Drive in Sioux City. The new facility will allow us to increase the number of individuals we serve, getting families off the waiting list, and meeting the ever-increasing call for services.
The construction on the new facility for the Pier Center for Autism at 3895 Stadium Drive is under way with completion targeted for spring of 2021. The new center will have expanded programming and be able to serve more individuals and families with autism. The 11,600 square foot building will have a gym, a mock apartment, meeting rooms and therapy rooms. The Pier Center has recieve a matching grant from the Gilchrist Foundation. All donations up to $150,000 will be matched dollar for dollar.
Reliable transportation is a necessary part of everyone's life. The 300 members served by Mid-Step Services rely on staff to transport them in Mid-Step vehicles to help them complete their daily tasks, access member services and go on fun outings to the movies, concerts and various other activities. Replacing and maintaining the fleet of vehicles that serves those members is a large part of the operating expenses for Mid-Step Services. For this reason, we are initiating the "Keep Mid-Step Moving Project". Your very generous donation will be used to maintain the current fleet of vehicles as well as help to replace aging vehicles. We sincerely appreciate your assistance in helping us keep Mid-Step Services moving!
