This Year's Project: Club Field Trips
About Our Organization
The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Siouxland is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to reach their full potential as responsible, caring and productive citizens. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Siouxland Provides: After school programs and activities, A Summer Day Program, Monday – Friday, snacks and meals, a safe place to learn and grow, ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals, and life-enhancing programs and character development experiences.
Current Project: Club Field Trips
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Siouxland is a summer and after school program for kids that offers an array of high-quality learning experiences. The Clubs also provide fun opportunities outside of our Club walls, including field trips. Our goal is to make all of our programs as affordable as possible to families.
Over the last few years, we have made a strong effort to avoid additional fees for field trips. With your help, we can continue to offer once-in-a-lifetime experiences for children including trips to the zoo, museums, waterparks & more!
Rhymes with Reason
Project Details
By age 3, children with professional parents get vocabulary exposure that is 2x larger than working class children (Hart & Risley). As working class children comprise the majority of American kids, this word gap, that persists through primary education, creates a reality where 65% of all students read below level in 4th grade and 64% of all students still read below level by 8th grade (NCES). We must do more to creatively find ways to help students learn words during their developmental years —particularly to disrupt cycles of educational (and consequently economic) inequalities in America.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Siouxland is looking to add a program called Rhymes with Reason to help enhance the vocubulary for youth.
Rhymes with Reason was launched in 2017 by Austin Martin to help students learn important English words by showcasing their existence in widely-known music lyrics. By using popular music, a bank of vocabulary known to people of all economic and racial backgrounds, our program provides an engaging and equitable solution to vocabulary access. This culturally-relevant, music-powered approach to closing the vocabulary and reading gap serves as a refreshing learning experience for all.
Club Hydroponics
Project Details
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Siouxland is looking to invest in a hydroponics system that will help teach hands-on lessons to Club members about where healthy foods come from and supply the Club with fresh produce to serve during meal times.
The system will allow students to grow vegetables all year long indoors. The product comes with a curriculum that will also teach youth about healthy eating habits and the growing process. The system can produce appoximately 20 lbs. of produce every 28 days and can grow a variety of different foods.
Operation Transport
Project Details
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Siouxland is an after school program for kids ages 7 to 18 to go to feel safe and accepted. For just $10 for the school year, we provide every opportunity for kids to learn and grow; from homework help and life-enhancing programs, to building ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals. We provide everything your child needs to be successful.
We understand how difficult and stressful it can be to provide for your family, especially when also worry about where your child is after school. To relief some stress, we provide after school pick-up to 9 different Siouxland Elementary, Middle and High Schools as well as partner with the City to pick up and drop off at 4 more Elementary Schools. But with this comes a lot of wear and tear on our vans! All of our current vans are 9+ years old and have broken down, causing a lot of problems over this last year. Operation Transport is our 2021 Siouxland BIG Give Project to help us raise the neccessary funds to purchase a new one!
We are looking to purchase a newer 11 to 15 seat passenger van to help us transport our members from school to the club, and to different field trip opporunities throughout Summer. Will you help us continue to provide transportation to our members and donate to our 2021 Project?!
