This Year's Project: Period Pantry Project
About Our Organization
The Junior League of Sioux City, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The organization reaches out to women of all races, religions, and national origins who demonstrate an interest in, and commitment to volunteerism.
Current Project: Period Pantry Project
Research indicates that 1 in 5 girls will miss school due to a lack of access to menstrual hygiene supplies. In response to this and other shocking statistics, the Junior League of Sioux City developed the Period Pantry Project. Members of the Junior League work closely with school nurses and community partners to support their school or organization. The Period Pantry Project has delivered support totes filled with period products to over 30 schools across four school districts and five community organizations. This comprehensive effort ensures that girls can stay in school and maintain their health without the added stress of managing their period without necessary supplies.
Beyond schools and community organizations, the Junior League has extended its reach by supplying products for bathrooms in various Siouxland businesses. This initiative not only raises awareness about period poverty but also offers discreet access to menstrual products for women and girls who might be in need.
In the past year alone, the Period Pantry Project has positively impacted approximately 10,000 girls, illustrating its significant role in supporting menstrual health and education in the region. Through these efforts, the Junior League of Sioux City continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of many, championing both access to menstrual products and broader awareness of period poverty.

Did you know?
1 in 5 girls will miss school due to a lack of proper feminine hygiene products
Two thirds of the 16.9 million low-income women living in the United States could not afford menstrual products in the last year.
Members of the Junior League of Sioux City are tackling the issue of period poverty by working with school nurses to provide menstrual supplies and other hygiene items to girls in Siouxland's middle and high schools. We believe that no one should have to miss out on an education or earning wages because they do not have access to feminine hygiene products.
The Junior League of Sioux City's Period Pantry Project committee has been hard at work purchasing products, collecting donations and creating a support tote for each school. These totes were delivered to the middle and high schools in the Sioux City Community School District. Each tote should support the school for 1-2 months, and then the committee members will restock.
With your help, we can expand our Period Pantry Project and continue to provide this basic necessity to girls in Siouxland schools.

NEW Furniture for a Local Non-Profit Youth Agency Partner
Project Details
The Junior League of Sioux City is partnering with The Siouxland Foster Closet in an effort to provide a comfortable space for children removed from their home.
Being removed from their home due to questionable welfare is a traumatic experience for children. These children are separated from all they know: whether it be for a few hours, a day or multiple days. The current room where some of these children are placed during the transitional period best resembles a Doctor’s office waiting room: worn and dated furniture, dull paint, broken or sparse toys, etc. This environment is cold and doesn’t provide the comfort and distractions those caring for these children aspire to provide.
This year, The Junior League of Sioux City is embarking on a project to revamp this room. The plan is to warm the room up with new furniture, paint, rugs, curtains and replace the broken toys. Additionally, provide extra safety measures and organization. The current budget does not support replacing furniture in the room, but new furniture is a necessity.
Funds raised from Big Give will be dedicated to this project, allowing The Junior League of Sioux City to complete this project AND replace the furniture in this room. Ultimately, bringing comfort and distraction to these children.
$10 donation = board game
$25 donation = set of curtains or washable couch cover
$50 donation = bean bag chair
