This Year's Project: Sergeant Bluff Community Light Tunnel by Port Neal Welding & State Steel
About Our Organization
In 2018, a group of community members came together with the intention of creating a way for individuals who wished to provide gifts to support community projects in Sergeant Bluff the opportunity to do so through a non-profit organization separate from the City of Sergeant Bluff. The Sergeant Bluff Community Foundation was born in Spring 2019 and is now a growing legacy that unites donors who wish to see Sergeant Bluff continue to grow and prosper, particularly in work or projectst that may not be funded through tax dollars or other City funds. Gifts can be customized based on the kind of work that donors who are individuals, families, business, or other entities wish to be completed within the City.
Mission
The Sergeant Bluff Community Foundation promotes a culture of giving to enhance the quality of life in our community.

Current Project: Sergeant Bluff Community Light Tunnel by Port Neal Welding & State Steel
The Sergeant Bluff Community Foundation in partnership with Port Neal Welding and State Steel is working to create the Sergeant Bluff Community Light Tunnel designed by Port Neal Welding with steel donated by State Steel at the Sergeant Bluff Recreation Complex. This project will feature a series of 12 steel arches equipped with LED lights that can change colors to highlight special events and awareness months, serving as a distinct landmark and point of pride for the Sergeant Bluff community.
Located in the high-traffic area of the Recreation Complex, the Sergeant Bluff Community Light Tunnel will be constructed over the existing walkway in the northwest section of the park, becoming a focal point for both residents and visitors. Its strategic placement ensures prominent visibility from Lewis Blvd./Old Hwy 75, allowing passersby to appreciate this vibrant addition that reinforces community spirit and engagement.
The project gained tremendous support following a successful temporary light display during RAGBRAI, complemented by significant contributions from State Steel and Port Neal Welding, where Dan Lee provided a scale model and planning assistance. Initial pledges of nearly $70,000 from local businesses have jumpstarted the Foundation’s fundraising efforts, and the Foundation is also actively applying for grants to assist with the cost. While some of the work will be completed in-kind, estimates from local companies for the 12 tons of steel, concrete work, labor, and lighting system show the total of cost of the project to be anywhere from $120,000-$150,000.
If the Foundation is able to raise a minimum of $80,000, Port Neal Welding and State Steel have agreed to begin the work on the project. We are currently $10,000 from reaching that number and are using Siouxland Big Give to help in raising those remaining funds.
