This Year's Project: Flood Relief 2024

About Our Organization

The purpose of the Siouxland Recovery Fund (SRF) is to provide financial resources to help meet short, intermediate, and long-term recovery needs in the Siouxland area when a major disaster strikes.

The SRF's fiscal sponsor is the United Way of Siouxland, a 501(c)(3) organization. The fund is used to support organizations and nonprofit agencies that provide direct assistance or aid to people impacted by disaster. It is also recognized that community needs may arise long after a disaster has passed, and the SRF is committed to addressing these long-term needs.

The SRF does not provide grants to individuals or families; instead, it supports nonprofit organizations and local government units that serve individuals and families affected by disaster. Area nonprofits are better equipped to assess individual and family needs on a case-by-case basis and administer funding effectively.

The SRF Review Board, composed of approximately 10 professionals broadly representative of the affected geographic area, will review applications and make funding decisions. The committee includes representatives from United Way, the Siouxland Community Foundation, city and county emergency management, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD), and community leaders from the tri-state area.

Current Project: Flood Relief 2024

On June 23, 2024, the Siouxland Recovery Fund was activated to support recovery efforts following major flooding in the Siouxland region.

To date, more than $250,000 in grants have been distributed to assist with the Individual/Household Assistance Program for residents of Woodbury County, IA, Union County, SD, Plymouth County, IA, and Dakota County, NE, through the Community Action Agency of Siouxland and the Salvation Army. Funds have also been allocated for Immediate Needs in Union, Woodbury, and Plymouth Counties through the American Red Cross, and for Mental Health Flood Relief through Heartland Counseling Services.

More on the Individual Assistance Program: The Siouxland Recovery Fund, in collaboration with the Community Action Agency of Siouxland and the Salvation Army of Siouxland, launched an individual assistance program to support flood victims in Woodbury, Union, Plymouth, and Dakota Counties. "We have been at the table over the last month as many organizations have partnered to provide immediate support to those in need,” stated Heather Hennings, President of United Way of Siouxland, fiscal agent for the Siouxland Recovery Fund. The Siouxland Recovery Fund will continue partnering with these organizations, who will divide the work between counties to ensure that those most impacted are helped. Individuals whose homes have been categorized as Destroyed, or with Major or Minor Damage, may apply for assistance as funds are available.

While these efforts have made a significant impact, the need for support is ongoing. Your donations are crucial to ensuring that the Siouxland Recovery Fund can continue to provide aid to those affected by the floods. We urge you to contribute and help us reach even more families in need. Every dollar makes a difference.
